Gran Turismo 7 is now playable on PC with the experimental KytyPS5 emulator, moving beyond menu demos to actual gameplay. This is significant as it shows the console exclusive can run on non-native hardware even if performance is currently very slow. Those looking to experience the game on Windows will face many limitations until the emulation technology improves further.
Experimental emulation shows playable but slow gameplay on Windows
The footage of the game running is courtesy of Unreal Gaming PC. They used a customized version of the KytyPS5 emulator made by user usa-ratt. Specifically commit d5bb89e and Gran Turismo 7 1.710. This demonstrates that the emulator can now do more than show loading screens and allow basic menu navigation.
We used an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU along with 64GB of DDR5-6000 RAM. The emulator allowed experimental tessellation but turned off calculating reflections on alternate frames. This is the current state to get slow but playable frame rates.
Performance on this very powerful setup is around 17-25 FPS which is considered too slow to be enjoyable. There are also compatibility issues depending on the build and hardware. Some people are experiencing crashing when loading or navigating menus. The emulator is actively in development so not guaranteed to be stable enough for extended gameplay sessions.
Gran Turismo 7 was developed by Polyphony Digital and published on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 only. There is no native PC version and this is the only way to experience the game on Windows. This is a starting point for what is theoretically possible, but far from being usable in general.
