Dragon's Dogma 2 players finally have a reason to return to the world of Gransis. CAPCOM released Patch 3.2, which delivers the significant performance optimizations the game has lacked since launch. This update directly addresses the severe frame rate drops that plagued the city of Vernworth on high-end hardware. Players who previously struggled to maintain a stable framerate can now expect a much smoother experience.

Update expands weapon skills and optimizes handheld performance

The patch arrives on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. It also introduces the Dark Arisen expansion, which launches globally on October 9. The update expands the player's arsenal by increasing the number of assignable weapon skills from four to six. This change allows for more varied combat strategies as players tackle the new content.

Performance gains on PC are substantial for those with capable hardware. Tests on a system with a 7 7800X3D CPU and an RTX 5070 Ti GPU show frame rates jumping from the upper 80s to over 120 FPS in Vernworth. These tests ran at 1440p with maximum settings and ray tracing enabled. The improvement is even more notable given that official patch notes do not explicitly claim these performance boosts.

Handheld players also see tangible benefits from this update. The game now maintains 30 FPS or higher in Vernworth on the Steam Deck. This performance is achieved at 720p resolution using FSR 3 in Performance mode. The update confirms that the optimization efforts extend beyond just desktop PCs to portable gaming devices.

The official patch notes for version 3.2 focus on gameplay changes rather than technical fixes. This omission suggests the performance improvements might be side effects of other code adjustments. Players should expect the new expansion to launch on all supported platforms, including Switch 2, alongside the patch.
