Diatec Files for Bankruptcy After Years of Declining Keyboard Sales

Diatec, the Japanese manufacturer behind the FILCO keyboard brand, has received a bankruptcy order from the Tokyo District Court on April 30, 2024. The company officially announced the end of its business operations on its website on April 22, just days before the court ruling.

Founded in 1982, Diatec specialized in selling PC keyboards, parts, and related products primarily under the FILCO brand. The company operated in the gaming, business, and general keyboard hardware sectors.

Sales at Diatec declined significantly over the last several years. Revenue dropped from approximately 1.434 billion yen in the fiscal year ending September 2016 to about 800 million yen in the fiscal year ending September 2024. The company attributed this decline to the normalization of pandemic-era remote work demand, reduced sales in China, and a strategic reduction in third-party keyboard inventory to improve profitability.

The Majestouch 3 is one of the models associated with Diatec and the FILCO brand. The company's collapse marks the end of operations for a long-standing manufacturer in the peripheral hardware market.
