Colorful unveiled the iGame X870E ULTRA-S motherboard for AMD AM5, catering to enthusiasts who crave large-capacity memory setups. This motherboard stands out because it offers support for up to 192GB of DDR5 memory, surpassing the usual limits set by many consumer-grade motherboards today. This makes it particularly relevant for users looking to build high-end workstations or high-performance gaming PCs, as they can benefit from increased memory bandwidth without needing to move into server-class solutions.
Colorful introduces a new AM5 motherboard featuring 192GB DDR5 support and 16 MCIO interfaces
The iGame X870E ULTRA-S features four DDR5 DIMM slots, and is based on the AMD X870E chipset. It officially supports DDR5 memory, including standard DDR5, and MRDIMM (usually found in workstation setups). It also supports up to 16-channel DDR5 module setups, which enables higher data transfer rates in certain systems.
When it comes to graphics and storage, the motherboard uses PCIe 5.0 interfaces for both future-proofing, so you can connect high-speed GPUs and NVMe storage. On the expansion side, it features 16 MCIO 8i interfaces with PCIe Gen6 and CXL Gen3 standards. This offers a lot of flexibility for integrating high-speed storage or network devices in your setup.
The memory speed is rated at DDR5-6600 with a CL28 latency, providing low latency for demanding use cases. Of course, the actual performance will vary based on your memory kit, the memory controller in the CPU, BIOS version, and how many memory modules you use. Make sure to check compatibility with your CPU and memory kits before buying.
Colorful hasn't announced pricing or global availability yet. It's expected to first come out in China. Earlier, we had covered Colorful's teaser for an iGame Ultra motherboard for AMD AM5, which showcased some interesting features like dual 8-pin EPS power connectors and quick-release PCIe slots. The iGame X870E ULTRA-S seems like a different variant within the lineup, focused more on memory performance.
