IBM is establishing a new quantum computing manufacturing facility in the United States. The company plans to build America's first dedicated quantum wafer fab through its newly formed subsidiary, Anderon.
New Anderon subsidiary operates as pure-play quantum foundry in Albany NY
The facility will operate as a pure-play foundry for 300mm quantum wafers. It will be located in Albany, New York, where IBM currently maintains its headquarters.
IBM has committed $1 billion in cash and intellectual property to the project. The United States Department of Commerce also provided an additional $1 billion in incentive funding under the CHIPS Act. This brings the total investment for Anderon to $2 billion USD.
The initiative aims to secure American leadership in quantum computing technology. It is designed to boost national security and strengthen the domestic economy through advanced manufacturing capabilities.
