Microsoft will allow users to remap the Copilot key to Right Ctrl or the context menu in a future Windows 11 update. The company acknowledges that the Copilot key can disrupt workflows and hinder accessibility.
Remap option in Settings
The remapping option will be available in Settings under Bluetooth & devices, then Keyboard. Users can choose to reassign the key to either Right Ctrl or the context menu function.
Microsoft has noted a potential issue with the remap. If users set the Copilot key to Right Ctrl, some key combinations that use the physical Left Shift key with the Right Control key may not work consistently on all keyboards. Microsoft recommends using the physical Right Shift key for those shortcuts if problems arise.
The update is expected to arrive later this year, according to Windows Central. Microsoft has not provided a specific release date.
