HiCloud Technology, in partnership with China Telecom, has put the world's first offshore wind-powered underwater data center into full commercial operation. The facility is located off Shanghai's Lingang Special Area at a depth of 35 meters.
Facility houses nearly 2,000 servers including GPU clusters.
The data center has a power capacity of 24 MW and houses nearly 2,000 servers, including GPU clusters. It uses seawater for passive cooling and claims a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.15, making it among the most energy-efficient large-scale data centers according to Chinese media reports.

The facility is connected to offshore wind farms to source renewable energy. The project cost $226 million to build.
HiCloud Technology has not disclosed any pricing details for the data center's services. The company has not confirmed future expansion plans or additional deployment locations.
