Intel announced the Xeon Diamond Rapids server processor on April 25, 2024. The company plans to release the initial batch of chips in mid-2027. Intel will launch a flagship model with up to 512 cores a few months after the initial release. The processor will use the LGA 9324 socket and support 16-channel memory. Intel canceled the 8-channel version of Diamond Rapids to focus on the 16-channel design.
Diamond Rapids uses the Panther Cove-X P-core architecture. The chip features a chiplet design with separate compute and memory controller blocks. Intel will not include simultaneous multithreading support in this generation. The flagship model will have a thermal design power of up to 650W. Intel plans to introduce the successor processor, Coral Rapids, in 2028.
Coral Rapids will reintroduce simultaneous multithreading support. The successor processor will target the mainstream server market.
