OWC Express 4M2 Ultra: First Thunderbolt 5 4-Bay M.2 SSD Enclosure

OWC announced the Express 4M2 Ultra on April 18, 2026. This device serves as the first Thunderbolt 5 certified four-bay M.2 solid state drive enclosure. The product targets professional users who require high-speed data transfer capabilities.

The enclosure supports a maximum transfer speed of 6622MB/s. It accommodates 2280 and 2242 form factor solid state drives with a maximum total capacity of 32TB. Users can configure RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, 10, or JBOD modes. The chassis uses aviation-grade aluminum alloy and includes an adaptive fan for efficient heat dissipation.

OWC equipped the Express 4M2 Ultra with two Thunderbolt 5 ports. The device supports daisy chaining up to five additional Thunderbolt devices. It maintains compatibility with Thunderbolt 5, 4, and 3 on Mac computers, as well as USB4. OWC states the hardware meets 8K+ video workflow requirements.

The standard version without SoftRAID software costs 399.99 USD. The version that includes SoftRAID software costs 549.99 USD. OWC expects the product to ship globally in the third quarter of 2026.
