Microsoft is migrating core 11 experiences to the WinUI 3 framework to reduce latency. The company detailed the changes in a GitHub post on May 12, 2025.

Explorer startup improvements detailed

Explorer startup improvements include a 41% reduction in memory allocation, a 63% reduction in temporary allocations, and a 45% reduction in function calls. WinUI code execution time is reduced by 25%.

These improvements will be reflected in the WinUI 3 main branch and WinAppSDK 2.x. Some optimizations require opt-in initially, but Microsoft plans to switch to opt-out by default.
