Resonac has announced a significant expansion of its hard disk drive platter manufacturing capacity. The company plans to increase its annual production output by 31 percent. This strategic move aims to bolster supply chain capabilities for the storage hardware sector.
Annual HDD platter production rises to 210 million units via Singapore facility expansion
The expansion will raise Resonac's annual production volume from 160 million platters to 210 million platters. The company centers this growth around its Singapore facility, known as RHDS. Equipment from a previously closed Taiwan manufacturing site is being relocated to Singapore to support this increase.
New production lines are scheduled to begin rolling out in 2027. The exact timeline for these new lines remains dependent on prevailing market conditions. Resonac intends to phase in the additional capacity gradually rather than launching all new lines simultaneously.
This capacity increase occurs against a backdrop of broader storage market dynamics. Industry analysts project that DRAM and NAND memory will face supply shortages through 2027. Major manufacturers like Micron and SK Hynix are already raising inventory levels to meet anticipated demand for AI servers and enterprise storage.
Resonac has not confirmed the specific launch window for the new production lines. The company stated that the rollout schedule will adjust based on future market environments.
