PFU has launched a limited edition HHKB Professional Elite to celebrate its 30th anniversary. This is significant for keyboard collectors and touch typists that value the specific tactile sensations of electrostatic capacitive switches. PFU is offering a rare hardware to users who may care more about quality and heritage design than features.
Limited edition HHKB Professional Elite features machined aluminum body
The limited edition keyboard takes inspiration from the HHKB Professional HG that was released in 2006. The keyboard has a unibody aluminum machined construction. The machined aluminum is sandblasted and anodized. This makes the keyboard rigid and resists flexing under intense touch typing.
Specifications
- Build Material: One-piece machined aluminum body
- Switch Type: Type-S silent electrostatic capacitive
- Adjustability: Four-angle tilt via replaceable feet
- Edition: 30th Anniversary Limited Edition
- Production Run: 300 units globally
The keyboard uses Type-S silent electrostatic capacitive switches. The new internal mounting design is added to further reduce the sound. The keyboard has a four-angle adjustable tilt at the bottom.
This is done by using replaceable feet. Users can adjust the typing angle for ergonomic benefits.
The keyboard is limited to just 300 worldwide units. PFU set aside 250 for Japan and 50 for China. Every keyboard has a unique laser engraving to confirm its exclusivity.
The price is set to 330,000 JPY. That's roughly $2,086. This is the tax included price for the Japanese release.
PFU's limited edition release is part of a long standing practice of commemorating its hardware. PFU hasn't indicated future plans of producing more of this specific aluminum bodied keyboard. Since the keyboard's worldwide limit is only 300, the availability for prospective buyers is scarce.
