Pearl Abyss is taking Crimson Desert to the next level with a big content update that changes the entire way the game plays. With 'Charting the Unknown' DLC, there are new ocean-centric mechanics that completely change the game from land-based RPG to a full-blown sea exploration game. It's a big deal because it adds a lot of new mechanics to play with, such as the ship-building mechanics and underwater exploration.

New maritime mechanics and social features transform the RPG experience
It significantly increases the game's longevity. It's a huge boon to those who like social simulation and economic gameplay. There's a whole new level of interaction outside of just combat.
The new content update is coming on October 29, 2026, and with it comes a bunch of new features that are a mix of exploration and social activities. Now you can get married to the NPCs in the game, which adds a personal touch to it. Also, you can build your own house in the game and own or conquer castles, which lets you feel like the owner of that land. Social and territorial features make the world feel much more dynamic and player-driven.
For the technical gameplay, there's a new ocean and business system. You can go underwater and dive. You can sail ships around the oceans, which adds a new level of verticality to the game's exploration.
There is a new business management system where you can lease facilities and sell items. So, that's another simulation layer – an economic simulation. You can also enjoy boss-rush mode if you just want to be challenged by difficult combat without going through the usual hassle.
You can get some diving sets for some of the characters in the game like Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka. So you can use them right away for the new ocean exploration. We've been keeping an eye on Crimson Desert and can confirm that it's all in line with what we've written before about the Crimson Desert Charting the Unknown Expansion.
It's a big shift in the game with it now not being about land conquest but about maritime and social domination. So be ready for much more than just the usual RPG-ish activities.
