NVIDIA DLSS 5 preset delivers 30-40% frame rate boost with visual trade-offs

NVIDIA's new DLSS 5 preset boosts frame rates by 30- 40% with visual trade- offs. Witchfire's creator now praises the tech as it rolls out to NBA 2K27 and Hogwarts Legacy.

NVIDIA DLSS 5 preset delivers 30-40% frame rate boost with visual trade-offs

A new DLSS 5 performance preset has been added to massively increase frame rates at the expense of visuals. This is important to gamers as it opens up a way to get more performance out of demanding games without needing to upgrade. This gives those who are willing to go for max performance the option to try the new faster setting. While those who care more about visual quality could keep using old settings.

The new DLSS 5 preset offers a significant performance boost for PC gamers.

Witchfire creator Adrian Chmielarz now praises the technology after initial skepticism

The new preset is part of a software upscaling technology built into GPUs. The new preset was announced by NVIDIA at their GTC Berlin event. This is a change to the way that NVIDIA approaches performance and graphics. The new preset is now accessible in PC games through injectors to give immediate access to the technology, before it becomes officially supported.

The new DLSS 5 preset gives 30-40% performance boost over older settings. Although the performance jump is quite large, the improvements in graphics are a bit less impressive. So the graphics may not be as good as the performance bump.

Additionally, modders have enabled Foveated Rendering in DLSS 5 injectors. This also helps to increase performance even more, especially for ultrawide displays.

In the coming weeks specific games will be getting official support for DLSS 5. NBA 2K27 will get DLSS 5. Hogwarts Legacy will be getting support on November 5.

Where Winds Meet is getting DLSS 5 too, but later in November. This gives developers time to do the proper integration of the new preset.

Adrian Chmielarz (Witchfire creator) didn't like the technology at first, but now is a fan as long as you don't overuse it. He sees the same acceptance path for DLSS 5 as he did for DLSS 3 and DLSS 4. This shows how acceptance for upscaling technology can change over time as it improves and gets more integrated into games.
