AMD recently launched their latest driver update, Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1. This is a major one, as it introduces major graphics upscaling capabilities for older hardware. This matters because it's extending the lifespan of those Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs as it enables FSR Upscaling 4.1 which was previously limited to newer hardware. Now, you can take advantage of these advanced upscaling tricks for older GPUs without having to upgrade to a newer graphics card.
AMD Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver brings FSR 4.1 upscaling to older Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs
AMD has their new driver update that's targeting a lot of their hardware including Radeon RX 5000, 6000, 7000, and 9000 series GPUs. Also included are their Ryzen AI processors for AI Max 300 and 400 series, as well as Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series. That's a lot of hardware that's getting supported by this new driver update. You're getting the latest performance improvements with this driver for a lot of hardware from desktop to mobile systems.
The driver update isn't just for graphics upscaling. It introduces native support for a bunch of new games. For example, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, STAR WARS Galactic Racer, and FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE are now supported. You're also getting some performance improvements for Modern Warfare 4 specifically in regards to fixing the stuttering issues for Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards.
There are a bunch of issues with this driver update in terms of stability for different games and hardware. First off, you could potentially have issues with crashing or timeout issues for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with the RX 7000 series. Valor Mortis and Death Stranding 2 are also having some issues on RX 7600 or 9000 series hardware.
Another issue to watch out for is when enabling/disabling overlays with Performance Metrics Overlay. This could cause some crashing issues as well. Also, if you enable in game FSR for frame generation and switch apps, this could potentially cause issues as well for RX 9000 series.
Now, in regards to installing this driver, you may run into some regional restrictions for installing the AI Bundle. This is most likely going to be for the regions that don't have access to HuggingFace or GitHub. Another issue that some may run into with this driver is that if you have Windows 10, your AMD Smart Access Memory is disabled after you install this driver. Lastly, we mentioned some fixes for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and HITMAN Timeouts for RX 7000 or 9000 series if you installed the previous driver, 26.9.2.
Overall, this driver update confirms FSR 4.1 support for legacy RX 6000 series GPUs. You're also getting new game support. It's also good to know what some of the stability issues are that you need to be aware of before installing this update. AMD is still providing software updates for older hardware, but certain features you need to tweak just to not run into some of these known issues.
