Embark Studios has launched Season 12 (PRIME TIME) for THE FINALS which is the developer's largest update since the game's release. The latest update looks to cater to the majority of players that hop into the game without a pre-made team with a new mode for solo play. This matters because it focuses on the largest portion of the player base. Adding a defined competition for the solo experience that didn't exist before.
New solo mode targets majority of players with random mini-matches and updated destruction physics
Solo Showdown is a new core mode for the game with twelve contestants (all solo). The goal is to compete across three rounds of random mini-modes with no need for pre-made parties. This makes sure that all participants have a variety of play with random scenarios. No need to coordinate as is common in other team-based modes.
The update features changes to the game's destruction physics, making things less predictable in the environment. You can now have floors that sag. Walls that lean.
Structures that bend before breaking. This leads to more dynamic combat situations. Infiltrator is the new playstyle for the Light class.
This focuses on detection and repositioning. They have a True Sight. Mimic Device.
Translocator. These are to help with disguise and infiltration.
Dynamic Commentary using AI. The presenter (Scotty) creates live commentary through speech. It's in a beta stage at the moment.
This AI can mention names of contestants during the match. New visuals and gameplay for Monaco, Seoul, Skyway Stadium and Las Vegas Stadium arenas. All maps now have updated lighting. The developers are aware of possible reactions to the AI commentary feature based on past issues with AI voices in the other game (ARC Raiders).
All platforms. All players can experience PRIME TIME now. Embark Studios confirms that this is a significant update to the game.
The developer continues to focus on THE FINALS even as their other game (ARC Raiders) has done well. The update is available right now, no additional purchase necessary.
