AMD is in advanced talks with Samsung to use its 2nm process for next-generation AI CPUs and accelerators, according to industry sources. The discussions have reached an advanced stage, and results are expected to materialize soon.
AMD CEO toured Samsung's Pyeongtaek foundry in March.
AMD CEO Lisa Su toured Samsung's Pyeongtaek foundry in March 2025. The company plans to produce two chip designs at Samsung: Venice, a compute-optimized Zen 6 processor, and Verano, a variant of Venice tailored for Agentic AI inferencing workloads. Both chips would use Samsung's 2nm Gate-All-Around (GAA) process technology.

Samsung's 2nm GAA yields are not yet on par with TSMC, according to industry perception. Meanwhile, TSMC's 2nm wafer supply is booked through 2028, which may be driving AMD to seek alternative foundry partners.
AMD has not confirmed the timeline for production or any specific launch window for the Venice and Verano chips at Samsung.
