Microsoft extends Windows Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) support to Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) processors, giving gamers a new way to boost frame rates on integrated graphics. This update matters because it allows users to run demanding titles at higher visual settings without buying a dedicated graphics card. The feature leverages the system's neural processing unit to handle the heavy lifting of image upscaling at the operating system level.

The technology works across DirectX 10, 11, and 12 games without requiring specific developer integration or driver updates. Intel Panther Lake systems now accept input resolutions up to 1080p for upscaling, which is a step up from the 800p recommendation for earlier Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft designed this approach to make the feature compatible with thousands of existing games that do not natively support super resolution.

In our testing of the implementation using an Intel Arc B390 GPU, Auto SR delivered a 15% performance gain in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The system ran the game at 1050p and upscaled the output to 1600p while pushing graphics settings to Ultra High. This configuration produced 52 frames per second, compared to 45 frames per second when running native 1600p at High settings.
The current software version targets a 60 frames per second cap to ensure stable gameplay. Microsoft is investigating support for 90 to 120 frames per second scenarios in future updates. Users should note that the upscaling process also affects interface elements, which may make small text and UI details appear fainter on screen.
