AWS Bahrain Region Disrupted by Drone Activity Amid US-Iran Conflict

Amazon Web Services confirmed that its Bahrain region is currently experiencing significant service disruptions. The cloud provider attributes these outages to drone activity in the area, which is linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. This incident marks the second time AWS services have faced interruptions in the broader Middle East region.

AWS advises customers to continue migrating workloads as situation evolves

An AWS spokesperson stated that the company is working closely with local authorities to prioritize the safety of its personnel during recovery efforts. The provider is actively supporting affected customers by helping them migrate their applications to alternate AWS regions. A large number of clients have already successfully moved their workloads to data centers in other parts of the world.

AWS has advised customers with workloads in the affected areas to continue migrating to unaffected locations as the situation evolves. The company has not confirmed whether the Bahrain site was directly struck by a drone, though the possibility remains. This disruption follows previous incidents where two AWS facilities in the United Arab Emirates were confirmed to have been struck.

The geopolitical conflict is causing wider impacts across the technology infrastructure in the region. Meta has reported delays to its 2Africa undersea cable project, and a helium production shutdown in Qatar is affecting the global chip supply chain. These events highlight the growing vulnerability of critical digital infrastructure to regional instability.
