Xbox will keep releasing PC games on Valve's Steam platform while simultaneously expanding its own ecosystem. This dual approach matters because it allows players to access titles on their preferred storefronts without forcing a migration. Microsoft is prioritizing interoperability over exclusivity to maintain its current user base.

Microsoft confirms Xbox PC games stay on Steam while expanding native tools

The company is doubling down on its native PC tools, including the Xbox App and Play Anywhere features. This strategy reinforces backward compatibility and integrates third-party launchers like Ubisoft Connect and the EA app. The goal is to create a seamless experience across Xbox consoles and PCs.

A key component of this expansion is a new program codenamed Positron. This initiative will allow users to convert physical game discs into digital licenses. Microsoft plans to publicly unveil the details of this program later this month.

Microsoft is also adjusting its approach to Battle.net under new management. The platform is reportedly opening up to third-party developers, continuing a trend that began with Activision titles. Jez Corden reports that this plan has been in place for some time and remains unchanged under CEO Asha Sharma.

This strategy aims to build a cohesive ecosystem without alienating the Steam audience. Microsoft plans to maintain support for cross-platform play and shared game libraries. The focus remains on providing flexibility rather than restricting access to specific stores.
