Monitor prices in China have dropped to historic lows, making displays cheaper than ever before. The average selling price for online monitors now sits at 1056 CNY (around $156). This cost is roughly equivalent to a single stick of 16GB RAM. Buyers can now build a complete PC for less money than before.
Gaming panels drive listings while mid-range segment shrinks
Logitech Technology reported these figures in a mid-year market analysis. The company sold 5.79 million monitors online during the first half of 2024. This volume represents a 10% decline compared to the same period last year. High costs for other PC components have suppressed overall demand.
Gaming specifications dominate the current online market. Sixty-seven percent of available listings feature gaming-grade hardware. More than 20% of these models offer refresh rates above 240Hz. OLED and Mini LED panels are becoming more common as their prices fall.
The market structure is shifting toward the extremes. Entry-level monitors under 1000 CNY (around $148) remain stable. High-end models over 2000 CNY (around $295) are also growing. The mid-range segment between 1000 and 2000 CNY (around $295) is shrinking as buyers choose cheaper or premium options.
Analysts project the full-year online sales decline will narrow to 5.5%. The falling average price helps offset the drop in unit volume. Monitor costs now make up only 10% of a typical PC build. This is a significant reduction from the 20% share seen before 2018.
