NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 Series faces a sharp price hike in China, driven by a massive surge in GDDR7 memory costs and intense competition for manufacturing capacity. Buyers planning to upgrade their graphics cards should expect higher retail prices, as wholesale costs for key models have climbed significantly over the past week. This shift reflects a broader supply chain squeeze where AI chip demand is prioritizing advanced semiconductor production over consumer graphics hardware.

GDDR7 memory costs and AI chip demand drive wholesale price increases

The price increases affect the entire mid-to-high-end lineup, including the RTX 5070, RTX 5060 Ti, and RTX 5060. According to a channel market report, the RTX 5070 wholesale price has risen to the 4850-4980 CNY (around $733) range, up about 50 CNY (around $7.36) from last week, with some retail transaction prices breaking 5000 CNY (around $736). Retail transaction prices for RTX 5070 are now commonly between 4299-5399 CNY (around $795), depending on the retailer and specific model configuration.

The primary driver behind these costs is a dramatic increase in the price of 16GB GDDR7 memory modules, which have jumped from 80-90 USD to 200-300 USD. This surge in component costs coincides with reports that TSMC insiders revealed that 80% of the production line’s advanced process capacity is occupied by AI chip orders. This allocation leaves less capacity for consumer GPU manufacturing, further tightening supply and supporting the price increases across the board.

Wholesale pricing for other RTX 50 Series models also shows upward pressure, though to varying degrees. The RTX 5060 Ti 16G version is quoted at 3800-3950 CNY (around $581), while the 8G version sits at 2780-2950 CNY (around $434). The entry-level RTX 5060 wholesale price is reported at 2330-2400 CNY (around $353). These figures indicate that the cost pressures from memory and fabrication are impacting the entire product stack, not just the higher-end cards.

The current market situation highlights the tension between AI infrastructure growth and consumer hardware availability. As AI chip orders consume the majority of advanced node capacity, consumer GPU supply remains constrained. Buyers should monitor retail prices closely, as wholesale increases often translate directly to higher costs for end users in the coming weeks.
