Files App 4.1.4 Preview Brings Long-Awaited Tree View to Windows

Files Community has released version 4.1.4 of its file manager application in the Preview channel. This update introduces Tree View, a feature that displays folders in an expandable hierarchy. Users can now navigate drive structures without leaving their current location.

The application allows users to download the software from the Microsoft Store as a paid version or from its official website for free. This release follows version 4.1.3, which recently became available in the stable release channel. The stable update focused on improving the tag system and folder size calculation.

Tree View provides a visual representation of the file system structure. It enables users to expand and collapse folders directly within the interface. This functionality removes the need to open separate windows to view subdirectories.

The update also improves the experience within the Windows Fonts folder. Users can now preview each font directly in Files without opening the built-in font viewer. These features are initially limited to the Preview channel to gather user feedback.

When we covered the last files update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up. The current release continues that focus by adding structural navigation tools. Files Community will likely refine these features based on Preview channel responses.
