has confirmed its next-generation Threadripper processors, codenamed Mustang Peak, will arrive in 2027. The chips will use the new TR6 platform with a sTR6 socket, bringing significant platform changes for workstation and HEDT users.

New TR6 platform brings DDR5 and PCIe Gen 6

Mustang Peak is built on the 2nm Zen 6 architecture, a major process shrink from the current Zen 5-based Threadripper 9000 Shimada Peak series. The new platform introduces DDR5 memory support and PCIe Gen 6.0 connectivity, doubling the bandwidth of the previous generation.

The TR6 platform replaces the TR5 socket used by Shimada Peak. AMD is expected to launch Mustang Peak in mid to the second half of 2027, according to the company's roadmap. Exact core counts and cache sizes have not been disclosed yet.

The confirmation comes from AMD's own documentation, spotted by InstLatX64, which lists the CPUID BA0F80 for the Zen 6 Threadripper Pro parts. The current Threadripper 9000 series uses Zen 5 cores on the TR5 platform with PCIe Gen 5.0 and DDR5 support.

AMD's Threadripper roadmap has been under scrutiny as part of tracking the company's high-end desktop plans. Mustang Peak represents a generational leap with a new socket and faster I/O, but users will need a new motherboard to upgrade.
