Synology is introducing a major update to its DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, integrating artificial intelligence capabilities directly into the platform. The company unveiled these changes at Computex on June 5, focusing on local AI deployment for enterprise and professional users.
Synology unveils major DSM update integrating local AI capabilities directly into its operating system at Computex.
The core of this update is the new Synology AI Console, which allows users to deploy machine learning models locally on their NAS devices. This console also supports integration with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, enabling seamless connections between the storage system and various AI applications.
DSM packages are receiving significant AI enhancements across the board. Synology Office now includes multimodal recognition and intelligent reasoning features to improve document processing. MailPlus adds an AI-powered smart search function and a precise anti-spam engine for better email management.
Synology Drive is also getting smarter with the addition of AI Search, which introduces semantic search capabilities that go beyond traditional keyword matching. Synology Drive will soon feature AI Search for intelligent semantic search and video parsing capabilities that break traditional keyword limitations. These features aim to break previous limitations in data retrieval.
In parallel with the software update, Synology announced new NAS hardware models designed specifically for AI workloads. These devices feature GPU acceleration to handle local computing demands efficiently, positioning them as capable solutions for intensive artificial intelligence tasks.
The DSM update represents a shift toward private knowledge bases built from enterprise data and logs. By keeping processing on-premises, Synology addresses privacy concerns while offering advanced automation tools. The combination of software updates and new hardware targets users who require robust local AI infrastructure.
