Counterfeit G.Skill and V-Color DDR5 memory modules are currently circulating on Chinese marketplaces, prompting a crackdown by the manufacturers. The fake DIMMs replicate genuine hardware so closely that visual inspection is no longer a reliable method for verification.

Fake modules use identical PCBs to trick buyers in China
The counterfeit modules use identical printed circuit boards (PCBs) and heat spreaders to authentic G.Skill and V-Color products. Some fakes even feature complex RGB lighting schemes that match official designs, making them difficult to distinguish from real hardware without specialized testing.
Unlike previous instances of fake DDR5 memory that used dummy chips, these counterfeit modules are functional enough to pass basic visual checks. The widespread nature of the counterfeiting has led to a noticeable decline in sales for V-Color among certain client segments.

G.Skill has officially confirmed the presence of these counterfeit products in the market. The company characterizes the issue as a long-standing problem and advises consumers to purchase memory modules exclusively through official distribution partners.
