God of War Laufey Brings Back Greek Saga Fluidity With Norse Grit

Santa Monica Studio has revealed God of War Laufey, the next entry in the series. The game shifts focus to Faye, also known as Laufey, as the main character. This marks a major departure from Kratos-led adventures.

Faye takes the lead in Everywhen

The story takes place in the Everywhen, the gods' afterlife. It runs concurrent with the 2018 God of War and possibly extends beyond that timeline. Players will experience the world through Faye's perspective.

Combat blends the fluidity of the Greek saga with the gritty, personal combat of the Norse saga. Faye can jump and perform air combos, a move Kratos could not do in recent games. This opens up new tactical possibilities.

Combat blends two sagas

Head of Creative Cory Barlog described the combat as a polar opposite to Kratos's deliberate style. He noted it still feels familiar and carries the influence of the Greek saga. The quote comes from an interview with IGN.

No concrete release window has been announced. A 2027 release is reportedly on the table according to sources. Santa Monica Studio has not confirmed this timeline.

God of War Laufey is confirmed as a new title with Faye as the protagonist. The setting and combat details are official. Release timing remains unconfirmed.
