Star Wars: Eclipse is reportedly stuck in development hell and may not launch until 2028 or later. The game, announced at The Game Awards 2021, has faced persistent delays and internal turmoil.

Insider claims game is in development hell

Developer Quantic Dream is struggling to keep the project afloat. Its backup MOBA, Spellcasters Chronicles, has been canceled after failing to generate enough funding to support Eclipse.

According to a report from Insider Gaming Weekly, cited by Wccftech, the game is in deep trouble. Mike Straw stated, "I can tell you one game not to expect. Star Wars Eclipse. I wouldn't expect to see that at all. It is in development hell."

NetEase reportedly seeking to sell Quantic Dream

NetEase, which acquired Quantic Dream in 2022, is reportedly looking to divest from the studio. Straw added, "NetEase, they want to divest from Quantic Dream. I'm not going to be surprised if Quantic Dream was sold by the end of the year or announced… by the end of the year or sometime in 2027."

The cancellation of Spellcasters Chronicles removed a potential revenue stream that could have supported Eclipse's development. The cancellation of the backup project has left the studio in a financially uncertain position.

For now, Star Wars: Eclipse remains unconfirmed for any release window. The only certainty is that the project faces significant hurdles, and fans should not expect it anytime soon.
