Microsoft Allows Users to Reassign Copilot Key on Windows 11

Microsoft will allow users to reassign the Copilot key on their keyboards. The option will be available through an update later this year. Users can change the key to perform the original Ctrl function or open the context menu.

Setting located in Bluetooth and devices menu

The setting will be located in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Keyboard options. Microsoft previously introduced the option to link the Copilot key to Search or other apps. Third-party apps are not yet supported for reassignment.

The update will roll out globally later this year, according to reports from ComputerBase and Windows Central.

This move signals a retreat from the Copilot key concept that Microsoft introduced in spring 2024 with Copilot+ PCs. The company has not confirmed the exact timing of the update.
