Canon has released a free firmware update for four of its cameras: the EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R50 V, and PowerShot V1. The update brings new autofocus features and video enhancements to the models.
EOS R1 and R5 Mark II gain American football AF
The EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II gain an expanded Action Priority AF mode that now recognizes American football. Tracking recovery has been improved so the camera can quickly reacquire the intended subject after a crossing moment. Registered People Priority now works better with side profiles and partially obscured faces. For video, both cameras can display False Color while View Assist is active, and they gain grid and level overlays during recording.
The EOS R50 V and PowerShot V1 receive Review AF across standard shooting modes and support for the upcoming BR-E2 wireless remote.
The firmware is available now through Canon's Camera Connect app. Direct download from Canon's website is available starting May 14.
