Bambu Lab has introduced a new 3D printing filament called Pure PLA in China. The material is made from five ingredients: PLA, acrylic copolymers, unspecified pigments, ethylene bis(stearamide), and asbestos-free talc.

Certified filament requires careful use

The filament meets several safety certifications. It complies with Greenguard, EN 71-3, and EU Regulation 10/2011 for food contact. Bambu Lab performed migration tests on printed models rather than just raw filament. The company recommends using prints between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius. Users should avoid exposing prints to acidic, alkaline, or organic solutions, as well as immersion and fatty foods. Safety guidelines also include avoiding blind holes, sealing cavities, and deburring.

Bambu Lab is offering Pure PLA in China. The company has not confirmed availability in other regions.

The safety of printed objects depends on more than just the filament. Design, post-processing, and coating all play a role. Bambu Lab has not confirmed whether the filament guarantees food safety for all printed objects.
