Ploopy Bean Open-Source Pointing Stick Mouse Launches with QMK/VIA Support

Ploopy has announced the Bean, an open-source pointing stick mouse. The device is designed for users who prefer a TrackPoint-style input over a traditional mouse.

Bean features a silicone TrackPoint and four Omron switches.

The Bean features a silicone TrackPoint with 11mm of axial travel. It uses a Texas Instruments TMAG5273 Hall effect sensor with a 20kHz sampling rate and 12-bit resolution, capable of detecting movements as small as 3 micrometers. The mouse has four buttons equipped with Omron D2LS-21 switches. It runs QMK firmware and supports VIA for key remapping.

Specifications

  • Sensor: Texas Instruments TMAG5273 Hall effect sensor
  • Sampling Rate: 20kHz
  • Resolution: 12-bit
  • Switches: 4x Omron D2LS-21
  • Firmware: QMK with VIA support

The first-party version of the Bean is 3D-printed and priced at 69 CAD (about $50.58). It is available in Canada as of May 6, 2025.

Ploopy has open-sourced the mechanical and electrical documentation for the Bean, allowing users to modify or build their own version. The mouse is aimed at enthusiasts who value customization and repairability.

Ploopy has not confirmed plans for wider availability beyond Canada.
