Valve’s new Steam Machine arrives as a compact, console-like PC, but LDLC is offering a larger alternative that targets the same desktop gaming audience. The French retailer launched the Stim to provide a prebuilt option for users who want SteamOS compatibility without the strict size constraints of Valve’s hardware. This choice matters because it gives buyers a bigger chassis and potentially more powerful internal components for a price that sits just above the Steam Machine’s entry point.

French retailer offers larger chassis and AMD Ryzen 5 8400F for SteamOS gaming

The Stim is built around an 5 8400F processor paired with an AMD RX 9060 XT 8GB graphics card. LDLC mounts these components on a B650 motherboard inside a SilverStone SG13B-Q chassis that holds 11.5 liters of volume. The system includes 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD for storage and operating system files.

Specifications

  • Chassis: SilverStone SG13B-Q (11.5L)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8400F
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB
  • Motherboard: B650
  • RAM: 2x 8GB DDR5

LDLC claims the RX 9060 XT 8GB GPU is approximately one-third faster than the 28-core RDNA 3 GPU found in the Steam Machine. This performance gap comes with a physical trade-off, as the Stim’s 11.5L case is roughly three times the volume of the Steam Machine. The internal build uses a 350W 80 PLUS Bronze power supply to support the components.

The Stim supports SteamOS, allowing it to function similarly to a console for gaming. LDLC offers two configuration tiers for the European market. The version without an operating system costs 999.99 EUR (around $1,139). The model pre-installed with is priced at 1039.99 EUR (around $1,185).

Valve’s Steam Machine starts at 1039 EUR in the Eurozone, making the Windows-equipped Stim slightly more expensive than the base Steam Machine. The Stim provides a distinct form factor for users who prioritize internal space over the ultra-compact footprint of Valve’s device. Both systems target the same SteamOS gaming ecosystem.
