Apple Discusses Chip Production with Intel and Samsung

Apple is exploring ways to reduce its reliance on TSMC for chip manufacturing by initiating early-stage discussions with and . This strategic shift aims to diversify its supply chain for Apple Silicon SoCs amid growing geopolitical risks related to Taiwan-China relations.

The push for diversification has accelerated due to recent semiconductor shortages linked to AI data center construction and Mac demand. Apple visited Samsung's advanced chip fabrication facility in Texas to evaluate potential production capabilities.

According to Bloomberg, Intel and Samsung currently lack the production scale and stability required to compete with TSMC in the foundry market. Apple remains concerned about using technologies other than TSMC's and may ultimately not proceed with contracts with other partners.

Apple has used TSMC's 3nm process for the latest iPhones and Macs. No orders have been placed yet, and the discussions remain in their early stages. Apple has not confirmed any specific timeline for signing contracts with alternative manufacturers.
